Afternoon all and welcome to a fairly bright Palmerston as Dundee United aim for their third victory on the bounce.
The teams are out. Andrew 'Spot-Kick' Dallas about to get us under way...
- United started in their usual 4-2-3-1 formation with Safranko leading the line.
- Good early bit of defending from Jamie Robson before Safranko is almost on to a long ball from Bouhenna. Martin out to gather on the edge of the area, however.
- Both sides finding their way into the game, United with the better of it so far. Queens have started with a very inexperienced central defence with loanees Barry Maguire and Iain Wilson in there - Pavol Safranko should fancy his chances there.
- The home side are having a wee spell of pressure. Dobbie almost brings the ball down in the area but Bouhenna is there to clear.
- Wee stoppage as Jamie Robson and Scott Mercer clatter into one another. The Queens man took a blow to the head and needs treatment.
- Play back under way but Queens are down to 10 men with Mercer getting a cut seen to.
- Chance! First time Pawlett has got on the ball and he almost opens the scoring. He fronts up Maguire before moving it and poking the ball goalwards but it dribbles just wide with Martin only able to watch it. Close.
- United stepping it up with the man advantage. Corner...
- Almost 1-0 as Safranko meets the corner on the volley at the back post but it flies straight into the grateful arms of the goalkeeper. Anywhere else and he opens the scoring.
- We're back to 11 v 11 as Mercer returns for the home side.
- Queens on the break as Dykes dispossesses Gomis on halfway, his cross finds Dobbie but the ref's whistle goes for handball.
- Harkes does well to get a low cross in from the byline, Pawlett goes for the flick finish but has nowhere near enough power to worry the keeper.
- Queens on the attack. Corner...
- ...Michael Doyle meets it but his header drifts harmlessly wide.
- Wee gift for United as Wilson tries to keep the ball in despite clearly coming off Nicky Clark. Corner United...
- ...Close! Safranko meets it but Martin tips over. Queens clear the resulting corner.
- Dundee United stepping things up as Safranko goes for a curler but straight at the keeper. Plenty good stuff being played by the Tangerines but without the killer pass.
- Queens on the attack and looking menacing but Seaman mops up.
- PENALTY UNITED!
- Surprise, surprise Andrew Dallas gives a penalty. No doubt, though as young Maguire was caught on the ball by Pawlett. The defender gets a red card, too.
- GOAL! Queens 0-1 United. Clark
- Nicky Clark steps up against his old side and makes no mistake, low past Alan Martin who dived the right way. The Tangerines in control here against 10 men. Maguire made no attempt to play the ball as he hauled down Pawlett and had to go.
- Queens sub: Fordyce on for Stirling as the home side shores up their defence.
+1 - Chance to put the ball in the box for United but Fordyce heads clear.
United have been the better side for much of the half but without opening up the home defence. After the penalty and red card, though, the Tangerines are in firm control.
Second half kicks off
- Attendance: 2,012
- United straight on the attack after the break but McMullan's chance is snuffed out.
- Good save Martin! The ball drops to McMullan on the edge of the area but his curling effort is tipped over.
- From the corner, Harkes gets a head on the ball but Martin is there to pick up.
- Nicky Clark goes down 25 yards out and wins a free-kick. The home crowd don't agree but it's a free-kick in a dangerous position.
- Charlie Seaman steps up but it's never dipping enough to trouble the keeper.
- Queens have changed to a back three, leaving Dykes and Dobbie up top to try to get back into this contest.
- Queens win a free-kick 30 yards out. Dobbie to take...
- ...So close! It looks in all the way but flies just wide of the post with Siegrist beaten. Wonderful effort but United survive.
- GOAL PAWLETT! No, flag up. Still 1-0.
- Clark tries to turn in the area, wins a corner...
- ...comes to nothing and Queens are almost away through Dobbie but his shot is blocked.
- United on the attack, corner to come...
- ...Martin is out to gather Pawlett's delivery well.
- Queens midfielder Jacobs is up well to meet a header and send it goalwards but Siegrist is positioned well and takes it.
- United sub: Sow for Safranko
- Off the bar! Queens so close to an equaliser as Jacobs rattles the bar from the edge of the area. Up the other end Sow isn't quite so close, putting his shot almost out for a throw.
- Utd sub: Watson on for McMullan.
- Robbie Neilson has just matched up the two sides with Watson making it three at the back for United. Queens have caused his side plenty of problems since switching to a 3-4-2 formation despite being a man down.
- Heading into the last 10 minutes and the game is still in the balance. Plenty of work still to do for United to win this match.
- Flashpoint in the middle as Ian Harkes and Nicky Low clash. Bit of pushing and shoving and both get a yellow. Low was very lucky not to get a red there.
- Panicky defending from United as Harkes sclaffs out a clearance with Dobbie threatening. Dykes shot comes in and deflects over. Home crowd smell an equaliser.
- Queens sub: McGrath on for Jacobs
- Save Siegrist! Queens are pushing here and Dykes creates some space for himself and fires goalwards but the keeper is down to save.
- Utd sub: Stanton on for Pawlett
- Dobbie shoots but straight at Siegrist.
- Up the other end and Seaman's eyes light up but he smashes the ball over the stand, not just the goal. First time United have been forward in a wee while.
- United trying to take the sting out of the game with a bit of possession.
- The ball is up the right end of the pitch from United's point of view.
- Into stoppage time and Queens are launching it forwards. Frans is up well to head clear.
+2 - Queens still pushing. Utd holding out.
It ended up being a hard day's work for United after being in total control at half-time. It is a big three points at a difficult venue, though, to close the gap to Ross County to three points. A clean sheet, too, can't be sniffed at with Stephen Dobbie around.
