Afternoon all and welcome to Dens Park - Dundee have a gilt-edged chance to get themselves into the Betfred Cup last eight as they welcome Championship side Ayr United.
Minutes to go until kick-off. A big game for Dundee this - great chance surely to get to a cup quarter-final. The players are out, we're almost ready to go...
- Dundee starting in a diamond formation with Wighton and Mendy up front. Nabi is at the peak of the midfield diamond with Spence at it's base.
- Ayr have started the better, free-kick out wide in a dangerous position for the away side...
- ...Dangerous ball in from Forrest but Meekings hoofs it clear. Corner to Ayr...
- ...Michael Rose rose highest but headed well over.
- Dundee's first attack sees nice play from Ngwatala before it eventually goes out for a home corner...
- ...Nabi's delivery isn't the best but doesn't stop Kusunga going for a Gareth Bale/Cristiano Ronaldo-esque bicycle kick. Was nothing like those ones, though, he couldn't connect as Ayr cleared.
- Panic stations at the back for Dundee! Hamilton comes into traffic to collect a cross, smacks into Kusunga and drops it before just about blocking the next shot. Then it's chaos from the corner before Kusunga makes a saving block.
- Close! Ayr smell blood here as Shankland smashes goalwards, it hits Meekings and flies past the post.
- Dundee not settled here at all.
- No messing from Meekings there as he brushes Shankland aside and, in the process, takes out Lewis Spence with a strong tackle.
- First effort from Dundee sees Nabi smack a free-kick from range but it's easy for Doohan. Not sure if it was a cross for Mendy or a go at goal.
- More defending for Dundee as Moffat knocks it over the top for Shankland but he fires into the side netting. Ayr by far the better side so far.
- Bit better from the home side, a couple of minutes of possession but nothing hurting Ayr.
- Chance Dundee! Wighton and Mendy connect for the first time today, exchanging a one-two before Wighton has a go at goal - straight at the keeper though.
- Shankland has a go from range but it flies way too high and way too wide. Shows he's full of confidence, though. Warnings there for Dundee.
- Ooft, close from Nabi! First bit of class from Dundee comes from the former West Brom kid - he cuts back on his right and curls a beauty from the edge of the area but it's just wide. Great effort.
- Michael Moffat goes done very easily out wide but gets a free-kick. Kusunga heads clear, however.
- Past the half-hour mark and one team has been clearly better - not the Premiership one, though. Ayr have been all over Dundee whenever they get the ball and have been dangerous in attack.
- Huge chance Ayr! Kusunga is robbed by Moffat and he picks out Murdoch who must score but Hamilton tips it over. Top save!
- Straight up the other end and Nabi sets Mendy clear, he cuts inside his man and goes for the far post but Doohan pushes it wide.
- Chance Ayr - again. Kusunga has to be stronger and Robbie Crawford has a clear look at goal but hits Ralph and Dundee survive.
Well, that was rubbish. Dundee haven't got going at all - Ayr have been all over them in possession, buzzing about and Dundee haven't been able to cope with it. Last season's League One champions been by far the better side. Big half-time teamtalk for the manager.
Benjamin Kallman is stripped and ready for his debut. Craig Wighton makes way.
Second half kicks off
- Dundee on the attack as Curran bursts into the area and smacks it towards the front post. Keeper Doohan beats it out.
- A nice burst from Ngwatala eventually sees Nabi chopped down 30 yards out.
- The resultant free-kick is too long for Kusunga, however. Poor delivery from Nabi.
GOAL! Dundee 0-1 Ayr. Shankland.
- Well. Can't say they haven't deserved that - the ball bounced through and Shankland was on to it, smashing it past Hamilton with a fine finish.
- Dundee have a chance to level as Mendy rises to meet Nabi's cross but heads well over.
- Jesse Curran lines one up and connects, fizzing the ball inches past the far post.
- Dundee have been better this half but what a poor goal to lose - a keeper's punt straight up the park and Shankland was on to it. No worries about taking the chance - exactly why the Dark Blues tried to prise him away from the Honest Men.
- Nabi sends in a free-kick from wide, nobody can get anything on it and it drifts wide of the far post.
- Dundee sub: Moussa on for Mendy
- Moussa's first involvement is to give away a free-kick and then start a bit of aggro with Daniel Harvie. Not ideal but might just fire up the team.
- Sofien Moussa has had the ball three times and given away a free-kick every time. This time a flailing arm gets him a yellow.
- Ayr are still working very hard to close everything down and Dundee just can't get anything going.
- Attendance: 3,151
- Just after getting a yellow, Moussa slides in on his man. Foul given but luckily for him the ref is lenient.
- As we stand, Dundee are drifting out of the Betfred Cup.
- Better from the home side as Nabi exchanges passes with Kallman and almost finds Moussa in the middle. Harvie is there to clear, though.
- Ayr sub: McDaid on for Forrest.
- Sofien Moussa fouls again and is off. Looked harsh but all he's done since coming on is foul.
- Dundee sub: Kamara on for Spence
- What was Moussa thinking there? Just looked a basic foul but the ref had obviously had enough and sent the Tunisian off. Daft.
- Elton Ngwatala gets a yellow, I guess for mouthing off.
- Close! Ayr almost wrap the game up but Crawford fires just over.
- Penalty shout as Nabi hits the deck but nothing doing.
- Off the bar! Shankland beats Meekings to the ball in the area and cracks his header off the crossbar.
GOAL! Dundee 0-2 Ayr. Shankland
- That'll be that then. Ayr heading through as Shankland knocks in Crawford's low ball in with a poacher's finish.
GOAL! Dundee 0-3 Ayr. Moffat
- Game well and truly over. Can't say they don't deserve it as Moffat knocks home from close range. Awful from Dundee.
- Two minutes added on for Dundee to endure
+1 - Ayr sub: Moore on for Shankland.
+2 - Dundee down to nine men as Genseric Kusunga takes out Michael Moffat.
A shocking afternoon for Dundee from start to finish. Not much else needs to be said.
