Afternoon all and welcome to a bright Dumfries as Dundee United look to get their season started with an away victory at Queen of the South.
Doesn't really have to be said but what a massive game this is for Csaba Laszlo here at Palmerston. Performance (and result) just has to be better than last week.
First home league game of the season for Queens sees the players piped out on to the pitch. We've had an impeccable minute's silence for the late great goalkeeper Alan Ball and now we're ready to go...
Match kicks off
1 - United have set up with a back three, Adam Barton in the middle of Frans and Watson.
2 - Decent early start for United with Clark putting in a good cross that just evaded Loemba. Corner kick...
2 - ...Aird's kick, though, is booted clear by Harkins.
4 - Safranko has made his presence felt already. Won a few headers.
7 - First shot of the day comes from Queens' Andy Stirling but Rakovan picks up the bobbler.
8 - And then United have an effort - and it's close. Loemba puts in a far post cross and Clark goes to loop it back over the keeper but it's on to the roof of the net.
9 - Dangerous from Queens as Todd beats Watson and puts in a really good cross. Frans is there to just about clear. Now United have a free-kick 40 yards out at the other end...
10 - ...which is booted clear by Doyle. The ball comes back, though, and Safranko has a low effort from an angle saved.
GOAL! Queens 0-1 United. Stanton
15 - United have been the better side so far and take the lead through skipper Sam Stanton, placing into the corner from the edge of the area. Fine finish.
19 - Whatever might be said about Csaba, he's set his team up right here today. United are picking their way through Queens. Corner kick won by Loemba...
21 - ...Queens eventually clear and break. Doyle is almost in before Rakovan puts a clearance straight to Dykes but with the goal gaping, he can't find Dobbie. Let off there.
22 - Free-kick Queens after a sloppy pass from Barton. Harkins is getting the treatment from United fans before he takes this...
23 - ...and it worked! He puts it straight into Rakovan's arms.
23 - Queens on the attack as Harkins and Dobbie link up - the striker's shot, though, is saved by Rakovan low to his left.
GOAL! Queens 0-2 Dundee Utd. Safranko
26 - And United are cruising. Cracking finish from the new boy. He's looked decent and now Safranko has a debut goal, lifting over Martin and into the far corner.
30 - Have to say this has been totally deserved from United. By far the better team in the opening half-hour.
31 - Great ball from Loemba as his reverse pass sees Robson in behind but he finished like a left-back and it bobbles wide.
34 - Gary Harkins swipes at the ball but takes out Rakovan and gets a yellow.
41 - Nothing much happening of late. Queens have had the ball but United looking pretty comfortable.
42 - Loemba is in! But he's a good yard offside, everyone in the stadium could see. He did have a whole half to run into, absolutely no need to go early.
43 - Nice play from Harkins brings a volley from wide but Rakovan watches it fly well wide.
Dundee United cruising here at Palmerston. Very good first half. Warning, though, Queens have twice this season come from 2-0 down to get points including a 2-2 draw at Morton last week.
Second half under way. No changes.
46 - Queens on the attack as Stirling crosses but Rakovan takes it easily. Big keeper has been decent, though not really tested.
51 - As you'd expect, Queens have come out this half with a bit more purpose about them. United defending well enough so far.
53 - And again United repel the home side as Watson clears a Dobbie cross.
56 - Aird running toward his own goal puts the ball in the carpark. Queens still pushing but not finding a way through the visiting defence.
58 - Almost three as Loemba steals the ball in midfield and runs the ball right to the box but his low cross is just put out of the danger area. Fine play.
61 - Super keeping from Rakovan! First Dobbie smashes one from the edge of the area, the goalie stops it and then is up for Harkins' rebound and then stops a follow-up from Dykes. Big chance Queens.
62 - Penalty shout for Barton's challenge on Dobbie but not given. Queens' tails are up.
GOAL! Queens 1-2 United. Dobbie
66 - Out of nowhere, we've got a game on again. Jacobs made the unchecked run from deep on to the loose ball before a fine cross for Dobbie at the back post.
68 - Chance at the other end but United overplay it. Safranko cuts inside but passes instead of shooting and Clark can't find Aird.
71 - Poor from Barton as he tries a turn on the edge of his own area, loses it and then fouls his man.
71 - Harkins, though, smacks it well over.
72 - Queens sub: Murray on for Todd.
77 - Utd sub: Curran on for Safranko
78 - Getting a bit heated after Stanton is brought down. Wee bit tetchy.
79 - Rabitsch gets his now customary yellow card for a cynical pull on Stirling.
80 - Good defending Robson! From the free-kick Fordyce is free at the back to head across goal and Robson gets it out from under the crossbar.
83 - Loemba throws out some tricks and Michael Doyle doesn't like it, chopping down the United man. Definite yellow.
83 - From the free-kick, Watson is up well but can't keep his header down.
84 - Queens sub: Tremble on for Stirling.
87 - United almost shooting themselves in the foot as Frans' back pass just about makes it to Rakovan.
88 - Queens are just launching it now, United having to stand strong.
88 - Connor Murray fired in a fine goal against United last season - the ball drops to him again in space but his effort is woeful this time.
89 - Dangerous long throw is headed on by Harkins but no one there for Queens.
90 - Barton takes down Harkins on the wing...
90+1 - ...the ball is dangerous but eventually cleared.
90+2 - Now it's all kicked off in the United box as Rakovan goes down. Bit of a rammy and he gets booked along with Dykes.
90+2 - Robson got booked too presumably for mouthing off.
90+2 - United sub: Smith on for Clark.
90+4 - Corner to Queens...
90+4 - Just about cleared by Rakovan
They made hard work of it in the end but United deserved the points here in Dumfries. Much improved from last week and showed a bit of fight, too, with Queens pushing for a leveller.
