The following tweets show how Egyptians woke up on the Italian Consulate explosion in downtown Cairo
At about 6:22 and 6:24 many Egyptians living in Cairo and Giza reported on social media that they heard the sound of a huge explosion
Downtowners confirmed the news and believed the explosion was there at their part of town especially they heard ambulances and police heading there. They also saw smoke
Soon enough we knew that the blast was near the Italian Consulate in Galaa Street ,Downtown Cairo. There is an old complex for the Italian consulate as well the Italian Center and Italian Social club in downtown Cairo. It is badly secured. I have visited it before.
The explosion took place out the building
Here are photos from the scene
The police detained two journalists including David Degner
The other journalist in a foreigner
A water pipe was broke in the explosion
Again the Italian Consulate includes a social club with a great restaurant that I used to go to and a Cultural Center "Leonardo Da Vinci Centre for arts". It is a very old building. It is badly secured with four or five security guards only
It seems to be a car bomb
One citizen was reportedly in the explosion according to the ministry of health "Via AFP"

Foreign journalists are released
Back online , sorry I had to be sleep for awhile. I went to bed at 4 AM to wake up at 6:22 AM on that awful explosion sound.
The echo of the explosion already destroyed the windows in buildings in the neighbour areas in downtown. The windows of the Egyptian museum and the journalists syndicate were reportedly shattered.
Of course, the huge damage was in the surrounding houses around the Italian consulate, in the poor shanty town area known as "Maspero Triangle"
The "#Italian_embassy" in Arabic is still worldwide trending online where Pro-Sisi and anti-Sisi supporters fight accusing each other of standing behind the explosion.
The Italian FM told AFP that Italy was not intimidated with such explosion and that no Italians were hurt in it.
An Egyptian poor Street vendor already was killed while children from the area were reportedly in the explosion outside the consulate.
This is the photo of 26-years old Rabae Shaabn Abdel Aal from Fayoum who was killed earlier today in the explosion according to Al-Watan newspaper
Here is a video showing the scene in the area "By Aswat Masriya" especially in the poor houses at Maspero Triangle
The damage caused the impact of the explosion as seen in Al-Galaa Hospital , the hospital in front of the consulate.
Another photo for Al-Galaa hospital showing the impact of the explosion
Here is a video showing the police asking one of the foreign journalists detained at the Consulate for showing up at the scene after the explosion.
Maspero triangle is already in hot waters for years because of the development projects proposed and supported by the government in the area. The Italian consulate is located in the heart of the fight.
Now the people of Maspero triangle as well Boulaq Abu Ala are complaining that there were houses were destroyed and yet no official checked on their homes unlike the Italian Consulate.
Here are photos from Alaa El-Kamhawy showing the damage in the neighbouring area.

The houses in that area are extremely old and poor.Already the building of the Italian consulate is extremely old too.

The people of Boulaq El-Ramalah and Maspero triangle have been in a big fight with the government and investors who want to kick them from their houses and to use that extremely expensive land in huge projects.
Already today's afternoon the locals organized a small protest in front of the damaged consulate building slamming the government for ignoring their damaged houses. Dear Friend Hala Safwat was there and saw the locals chanting "Where is the minister of interior ?"
The minister of interior checked the area from 6 hours ago by the way.
Oh yes earlier the Egyptian State TV said that the 4-detained foreign journalists at the scene were suspects !! I am not surprised
And this dog saved its puppy from explosion :)) By Ahmed Abdel Fattah
There is a strange statement because usually Islamic State's affiliated groups in Egypt sign by "Sinai Province" or "Waliyat Sinai" not Egypt or Misr. They claim that the bombed car carried about 450 kg from explosives. Whoever wrote this statement is not an Egyptian because he or even she "mostly He" wrote Kg in Arabic as the people in Levant write it not like how the Egyptians write it. He write it with a "غ" Arabic letter and not with "ج" Arabic letter.
Anyhow the Egyptian government announced that it was going to fix the Italian consulate on its own expense
